This courtyard residential project establishes a relationship between the undulating hillside landscape and its primary residence. Situated adjacent to Loch Palm golf course, the residence has three bedrooms and three bathrooms positioned around a central area yet encompasses a 180 degree view of the luxuriant landscape.
The essence of all that we do as designers lies in the connection between nature and architecture. This, in turn, forms a feedback loop. Specific to this project, we explored how nature and the immediate surroundings could influence the form and function of the residence. Taking visual cues from the hilly contours, the project inspired an umbrella canopy as the roof form, to cover and protect the living and sleeping spaces below.
The project also benefits from a series of comprehensive cross ventilation and sun studies which we developed through our software at Enter Projects Asia. Working with a tropical climate in which temperatures are consistently above 20 degrees celsius, such studies are imperative to best environmental practice as well as ensuring cost efficiencies by minimizing electricity and power.
