A low cost housing solution each consisting of 6 units, with 300 sites available. Located in Perth Western Australia, 1st prototype due to undergo construction in April 2000.
Architecture is Everywhere
A house was never ‘designed’. A group of living conditions come together to form a hybrid, no ‘roof’ or ‘ground’ so to speak, instead a topography with a machine for living in between. In traditional surburban housing typologies, house are separated by front lawn, and back yard. In this design we offer an interconnected living system, communal courtyards, and shared roofscape. Comprising of reproductible clusters, the housing solution is a self-sufficient living device. 2X4 bedroom unit, 2x3 bedroom unit, and 2x2 bedroom unit, ensures diversity in users, living for all ages. No views necessary, courtyards protect from sun and allow nature to thrive. The prototypes combine technology and nature, an organism for habitation. Now architecture is everywhere, geography, shelter, lifestyle.
Originally a flat site, the topography was introduced based on some preliminary massing studies. The topohraphy helps to organize the location of the units, and provide a visual barrier between the units. Two sites LOT 40 and 41 were combined to make one development. Two 3 bedroom units at the front of the property, two 2 bedroom units in the middle and two 4 bedroom units to the rear of the property. The topography conitunes on the troof to become a series of private grassesd areas. Access to the roof is from all units.
The unis are to be constructed out of tilt up concreted in repeated modules that can be constructed and assembled on site.
The roof is constructed out of poured in place concrete.
